OXISFF to screen Iranian animation ‘Malakout’

Iran’s animation ‘Malakout’ is to participate in the Oxford Int’l Short Film Festival in the UK.

Iran’s animated short film ‘Malakout’ has made its way to the Oxford International Short Film Festival (OXISFF) in the UK.

The Iranian Youth Cinema Society said that ‘Malakout’ will be screened at the 3rd edition of the OXISFF.

Directed by Farnoush Abedi, the film is about a pianist who tries to bring his wife back to life, but a related deal awakens the devil inside him.

“Music was his passion. Love was his masterpiece,” a synopsis for ‘Malakout’ reads.

The film has received more than 40 awards at international festivals, including the Celluloid Screams: Sheffield Horror Film Festival in the UK and the 2020 Wolves Independent International Film Festival in Lithuania.

‘Malakout’ was also named the best short film at the Cryptshow Festival in Spain and garnered two awards at the Florida Animation Festival in the US.

The animation also received an honorary diploma at the Silk Road International Film Festival in Ireland and the best animation award at the Black Country Horror Shorts Film Festival in the UK.

The Oxford International Short Film Festival “celebrates the diversity and creativity of short films”, the event’s website reads, adding “We would like to encourage short films from all filmmakers in any genre (including documentaries). We're looking for great stories which stir the emotions, have strong characters, and unique voices or evocative worlds.”

The 2021 edition of the festival will run on 27 August-4 September.
